I'm curious to hear from anyone who has received an acdelco fuel pump or is in the know at GM/acdelco.

I received this pump and it smelled like fuel or some other petro-solvent. do they test them in fuel before they ship or...? there is also yellowing of the plastic and the brass terminals on the top appear oxidized with the very tips ground down a bit. should new stuff look NEW?

That's not a new pump.

The markings are just Q.C. stuff, but the screws shouldn't look like that.

Here's one from a random thread on the internet, I'll check one on the way home to verify, but those screws should be bright copper.

Where are you buying these janky parts?
Summit and advance auto.

edit: the sniper with the damaged anodizing that looked to be previously installed and the poorly manufactured headers came from summit. I'm not sure who let the sniper slip by, the headers were $500 heddmans that just didn't meet expectations. the fuel pump was from advance auto. one of the four new shock absorbers I received has large runs in the paint and bubbling; I planned on painting them black anyway. so really, three items out of $6000 worth of parts in the last 6 weeks needed to be exchanged. not terrible, but annoying none the less.

QC is a lost art it seems.

Really surprised Summit even to the Sniper back since it is electrical.

Advanced isn't much of a shock, they'll take back anything and most people won't look or care.

yeah, I'm starting to notice that. never ran into QC issues like this when working on my German air cooled stuff. then again, we never bought a single part on the internet and steered clear of anything hecho en Mexico or otherwise. we would go in and look at the part before we bought it. I guess it's a sign to get out of the home office more often so I can look at stuff in person.

at least it's not a daily driver that I need back on the road immediately.
