All the times I have done this there is "just enough" slack in the wires to move the switch out of the way without disconnecting it and pulling the lower half of the column apart, but this is the hard and easy way to frustrate yourself. If you got the time, it is much easier to do the proper way.

Next thing that popped out was this seat that the spring sat against, remove....

Next is this do-hickey, it slides out and sends current to the horn thingy, sorry for the terminology fail, just be careful when pulling it out and replacing it...

T-20 Torx bit removes the screw holding the ignition key cylinder in place, remove screw and lock cylinder....

Next, the T-30 Torx bit is used to remove the 3 upper column screws as shown...

Next, unscrew the tilt lever from column, lefty loosey....

Then this DAMNED section falls out and apart, a housing section, a plastic push piece, and the steel linkage rod is left dangling, a mystery to me to put back together in working order, more of a mystery than women, and even Retro...

YES, you CAN get the upper housing out of the way, with wiring harness intact, but it is a chore to work around...

Also, looking at that last pic, this is where the heat got to me and I forgot, that silver cap piece with the square hole in it, use a large Phillips head screw driver to push that down, and turn to the left, and it will unlock and pop out and the spring behind it can be removed.

Next step is a growth in manhood, homemade, ingenuity or just plain GUTS, home made tilt bushing extractor, you can do it if you got the mojo, or if you want to be safe, buy the tool for it....

You have to re-thread the tilt lever back in place, and tilt and pull assembly down all the way to disengage the teeth, then she opens up like a prom date in heat....

Then finally take these 4 bastard screws out and loctite them sumbitches and put everything back together, faaak!!!!! It's too hot for this!!!!!
