So, I'm having a problem. I don't know what kind of truck I should tell people at autozone I have when looking for a part. It's worked for the most part if I just tell them I have a 91 g30. But since I have no way of knowing what kind of truck this engine came out of I just tell them that. I bought the wrong EGR now because I don't know how to find what specific engine I have.
This thread would suggest I have a 93 "truck" engine. http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2361&page=3
Is there a way to identify what specific truck it came out of????

Now the important question... What kind of EGR valve do I need to buy?

you need ones for like an 84 or 85 truck or so.

the way to tell is find and run the block numbers, the rear castings and most important the front suffix ones if you can find them.

The block doesn't matter, the intake is what determines the type of EGR. That looks to be a late 70's to early 80's EGR.

Thanks guys I found the part I needed by looking at all the EGR's autozone has listed. It's EGR138 , FYI. Bucket was right, it fits a '78 (something, I can't find it now).

Best way is to get the # off the old valve.I ran into a problem with a similar truck.Worked at a dealer and there were 4 options for the egr valve,Federal or Cali certfied and negative or positve back pressure dessigns. Those autozone one size fits all will give Ya drivability headaches.Ask me how I know..
