Figured out the issue with the "cracking" sound up front. Turns out something WAS cracking, just not quite what I thought. See anything odd here?

Looks like somebody with little hands decided to play a trick on Daddy while the truck was getting its driveshaft fixed...

Dang kids.
Was that cause for noise and vibration or noise only?

It was the cause of the cracking noise only.

I drove to work today and the vibrations is still definitely there. It's like a buzzing.

I noticed when I pulled the d/s that there was a lot of play in the pinion. Not up/down or side/side. Rotational. As in there was slop in the gear and I could turn the pinion a bit before the wheels stopped the movement (wheels were on the ground). My Dad said that was typical/normal, but that does not seem right.

Should there be a lot of rotational slop in the diff?

I've had them with rotational slop and without. But ones with slop didn't cause a vibration.

i'll just throw this out there because it happened to me and was very hard to find. previous owner had done an engine/trans build/swap and the truck had a tremendous driveline shake. i eventually discovered that the torque converter bolts were mismatched and not of the same weight. maybe not your particular problem but an easy thing to check

You I actually talked about that with my Dad. I'm pretty sure the balancer is the original @ 150k miles... Would there be any other symptoms?

I personally wouldn't know but sometimes my burb shakes at 80k and the passenger seat is a wobbling ,itry to speed up slow down hit the passing gear to see if it changes just had new caps and chrome lugs installed new high pressure valves rotated and balanced but only drove a few kms so I haven't checked to see if it was gone, big heavy tires stiff frame harmonics is playing a tune

I has a similar issue with an '87 C30 crew cab back in the early 90's. When I bought it I had this chirping sound when you would start it. It turned out it had loose torque converter bolts. So being young and dumb I just tightened them and kept driving it. I would get a harmonic sounding vibration at about 65MPH. My guess the hole got oblonged from being loose. I can't confirm that was the issue as I sold the truck within 6 months.

Well I'll check torque converter bolts too. When I rebuilt the trans I installed new ARP bolts and used lok-tight on them, so I can't see that being the issue. But you never know.

If only this rain would quit...

Geez, I read the whole thread...annnnd after all that I should have said the same thing I thought after reading the original post!
BUT! I figured it was necessary because I didn't want to look like a ********* and repeat something that's already been said. Yet somehow, I still ended up looking like a doucebag, lol.

Anyways!

My first thought was "lemme guess? 45 m.p.h.?
"and only 45 m.p.h"
Ah hah!
Maybe my first hunch is/was correct?
Omg. It's a 1986?!

Okay. This is worth examination.
Wait!
You rebuilt if yourself? I think this may the right tree.
AND 70?
Hmmmmmm....

Okay dude...my FIRST thought was T.C.C.
T.c.c. solenoid?
Yeah....probably...at least maybe? Be sure to check that plug & wiring too!

Transmission fluid level-WHEN hot!
