Look for a factory service manual. When your truck was new they were still printing actual service manuals. Each circuit has its own page, if there is a splice that goes to a different circuit it will give you a specific page to go to, there are detailed illustrations showing exactly where a splice in a harness will be, how the harness should be laid out, detailed ground locations, fuse box, power and ground distribution, and best of all they are in color.

the fact its obd2 era diesel is why. they started heavy going to electronic injectors and of course emissions components and increased amount of electronics around that time, essentially a diff vehicle compared to 98 gas

gasser obd2 gmt 800 is way more common than diesel

or is it gmt 400 that year

whatever it is,if he is having trouble its because there are way more gas engines and people working on them for this purpose. a good factory shop manual will have what he seeks
