I have a 1987 3/4 pickup with a 350 and was looking online to get some parts for a custom exhaust. I plan on redoing the entire exhaust system and was wondering if the catalytic converter has to be plugged into the wiring harness or can I just get one and weld it in place and not have to worry about it?

There aren't any electronics associated with the catalytic converter. The only thing you have is a pre-cat oxygen sensor. You'll need to do a heated sensor if you go with headers, but it's easy. It's a three wire sensor that needs signal (already have it), ground, and 12V.
