Defrost Vent Interchangeablity

Does anyone know if the 73-80 and 81-87 defrost vents in the dash pad are the same part?

The '81-up pads have plastic inserts for the defrost openings.

Thank you for that information. On my 79 there's just two holes in the top of the dash pad so I can assume it has a later dash pad then?

The '80 and older were just plain openings, so it sounds like you have the correct style pad for the year.

Thanks again. I'm looking at replacing my cracked an crusty dash pad and trying to get a list of everything I need to order. It just seemed odd to me that there's no grill for the defrost vents.

IIRC, the defog ducts themselves have little divider slats in them that act as a grille. I'm not currently near any trucks to confirm that though.
