Can the 73-80 side molding be intalled using glue, not the clips/screws?

I would be installing the trim to an '83 cab+bed with a front clip from a 73-80. So I wouldn't have the holes in the cab and bed for the clips. Before I go and swap all the front sheet metal, I just want to make sure I can install the side molding without drilling holes.

So do you think it can be installed with glue? I'm thinking that 3M adhesive foam stuff for trim.

Cheers

edit: this stuff from 3M should work, right? http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/...ttapes_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html

Actually it won't work well at all, since the trim is stamped and hollow on the backside.

But the trim is easy to install, the hard part is just making sure it's lined up properly. The front fenders get all the holes, the rest of the trim doesn't need many holes drilled in the body. 75% of the mounting hardware is little square pads on the back of the trim that get 3M tape on them.

But that means drilling holes, and that means measuring and praying that a hole wasn't drilled in the wrong place.

Can lots of the "mounting hardware with little square pads on the back" be used all over trim?

edit: I found images. The front curved pieces are not as flat as the straight pieces, and I guess that's why those get stud clips to hold them in.

Yeah I got lucky I got a blazer that has the trim on it so I'm planning on measuring it out to make sure it goes where it needs to be on my other blazer

It's really not that hard to get it lined up. The holes that get drilled should be a little larger than the studs.

A little late,

But when I got my truck painted about 5 years ago, we sourced as many of the original clips that we could since several broke off during removal. In addition to these, we used the 3M double sided foam tape as well as stainless steel screws where they were originally.

If anything, the clips and tape hold the trim to the truck and the screws are just filling in the gaps.

Cool, thanks.

I've left the holes in the fenders of the 74 front clip that I swapped on, so that part will be easy to install. The rest of the truck body is from 83, so I'll have to drill holes. But there's another thread around here somewhere with measurements for where the trim goes.
