So I have a real strong burning smell that's either rubber or oil. I can't locate and oil leaks and the belts look great. Any idea what it could be. Also when the A/C or heat is on I get a little bit of the smell in the cab. Don't know if this is related to the same issue or if its another problem in its self. Everything reads fine on the temp and oil pressure so I'm lost.

Most likely culprits are valve cover gaskets or the grommets in the covers for pcv etc. A leak there puts oil right onto the exhaust manifold/pipe which is the only area that gets hot enough to burn oil. (If you had a serpentine belt system I would also check the idler pulley to see if it's starting to seize up.) It's normal to notice underhood smells more when the climate control is on since you're pulling air in from the cowl at the base of the windshield.

So you think it can only be the valve cover gaskets?

Go all around them with a paper towel and see how they look. I'm assuming your engine is painted black which makes oil leaks tough to locate.

Will do. Is it a easy DIY fix? Also what makes the truck kick hard into gear?

Easy fix. The trans thing is in HRPC's area of knowledge, but is it idling too high?

I had this problem once, turned out that the little rubber from my spark plug socket came off and stayed on the plug and I still got the boot over it. Stunk to high heaven.

Someone said there is something you add that will seal the valve covers up. Anyone ever heard of this?

Ok. Is it hard to remove the valve covers from our trucks? I'm thinking about ordering the edelbrock valve covers for $34.96 off parts geek
