I'm trying to get my truck to pass smog. I recently replaced my exhaust manifolds. However, the "extension tubes" didn't make it. I would have been a little more delicate if I would have known that they are a discontinued part. My question is, how important are they? If they are important, do any of you guys want to sell me,...say like...,8 of them? GM part #12338013

You're in luck. I just ran into this problem last week. The PO had removed 4 of mine. I found big and small block Corvettes had them. I got a set for my big block, but they are pricey though $68 plus $15 shipping! I should have mine by Friday.

I read some on the Corvette forums. The purpose of the extension tube is to put the injected air closer to the valve to help burn off more emissions.

I got mine today. Overall length is 2 5/8". I checked the ones that are still in my one manifold and they are only 2 1/16" over all. I had read on Rick's Camaro Parts that the length had to be shortened prior to installation. I'm going to shorten mine to 2 1/16".

The tips look different too. Do you think that's going to make a difference?

I wasn't able to pull the ones out that were in my left exhaust manifold. If I ever have to take the maifold off, I will replace the left bank of extensions. I did run a wire down the tube and did not hit any restrictions. So I can only assume mine are similar to what I purchased from Zip Corvette. Maybe due to the fact your truck is an '87 and was the first year to run unleaded / TBI has something to do with it? I would guess your original ones would spread the air more uniformly.

How long is the tube pictured?

2-1/2"
As long as I pass my smog test, I don't care how they work.
