Was driving my '81 GMC Classic Sierra 1500 truck last night when I heard a backfire sound and the engine died. I turn the key and the motor spins but won't crank. It is getting gas but just doesn't seem to be getting any fire to the plugs. Is this a distributor/coil issue?

Check your wires goin into your distributor. Also take a plug out hook up the wire, then place the plug up to a bolt or ground and have someone crank it over to see if there is spark. Check to see if your dizzy is still bolted tight, it could have been loose and turned out of time while letting off or giving it gas.

Pull the cap and make sure distributor is turning. May have sheared the gear roll pin or timing chain.
