This is for the 454 crowd,
Is the water pump bypass hose necessary?
If it is, seems they are, on my truck the hose will be 3” long and the nipples are very close. I am tired of fighting this.
The parts store wanted to sell me 5/8” heater hose. I can buy the bent bypass hose online. Manifold barb fittings are 1/2”. So do I use 1/2 nipples with 5/8 hose and clamp the **** out of them?

Please, please advise. Thanks in advance.

You can use regular heater hose, but it kinda kinks it. The correct nipples are for a 5/8 hose.

I replaced mine last summer not sure what size hose I used but it was just heater hose. I didnt know they made a bent hose for it.

Get the pre-bent hose because as mentioned above regular heater hose will kink and flatten at the bend point thereby reducing the flow. Just change out the barb fitting to the appropriate size for the pre-bent hose.

Barb size and thread size will be different.

The typical stuff on the wall at my auto parts store was 5/8” barb on a 3/8 npt and 3/4 is on 1/2” npt.

You are right, I was looking at mine yesterday and it's a 3/4 hose.
