All,

Goal as stated in thread title. Currently fairly stock I believe with iron heads, possible 383 but doubtful.

I am prepared to replace the entire drivetrain if that's what it takes. Experiences? Leaning create 383 from Summit with FI Tech, 700r4 and 373 gears. Also, want to keep it somewhat simple to work on and have nice cam thump at idle. Needs to remain a regular driver though so no configurations requiring stupid high stalls.

Thoughts? Opinions? Please no slammery, just looking for perspectives.

84 short and wide.

Thanks,
Kurt

im gonna say what ia assume honky kong will say.

go big block.

no need for FI and could hit 550 cheaper than FI 383 probably.

not sure what kind of power 700r4 could hold but if its for tire shredding it shouldnt matter much its a matter of when the tires hook that its a problem lol. but may need to add some stuff to beef it up again im not sure on that.

with a 700r4 having OD id look into 4.10 gears maybe. depends on tire size and what rpm you want to cruise at and such.

Pretty much lol but what I’m getting at with tire size is axle ratio if you hav OD go 4:10s and FI makes it a nice year round driver.

295/40R20...I think the rears are 20"x10" wheels
So pretty much a 30” tire I’d suggest 4.10 gears with that transmission, but 3.73s are an all around good street gear. With a 700s low first gear it should shred them tires nicely. Just make sure you beef up that 700 for 550hp and don’t buy a Monster transmission unless you like pulling the transmission a lot.

Well Matt already posted my standard answer of Big block lol I’ve heard good things about Holley Sniper EFI too. @74 Shortbed can school you on the 700r4 stuff. I myself prefer the TH400 for its abuse taking capabilities.

id say 4.10 would be great with a 30" tire and the 700r4s OD.

its a 30% OD and with 30" tire and 4.10 gear youd cruise 70mph at around 2250rpm according to the calc i used.

that would be about perfect in my eyes atleast for a big block.

SB with FI i assume you want to go supercharger would probably do well too with that kind of cruise rpm.

Have a t400 now. In addition to the above requirements, would like decent gas mileage at 70/80mph. Seems the 3 speed no O/D would not support this?

There’s always a GV might be a bit salty but killing 700s can be too.

damn nvm the big block that is a hell of a deal.

515hp a tunnel ram intake on that will get you to 550 if you really want it.

515 is close enough imo lol.
