The past 2 episodes of engine masters have been on a TBI 350 they put vortec heads on and made 360 hp then a blower got them to 550.

Hold the presses boys!
Gather up your muffler bearings...

I have watched all these episodes and however entertaining they are, they are simply entertainment.
Yes there is good info BUT... it's never the complete picture.
For example the episode that is the excitement of the day...
Does 3" produce more grunt than 2"....?
Yes.... BUT ONLY starting around and over 5000 rpm.
It doesn't do a flip of difference at normal driving rpms. Nada. So unless your building a racing engine that's revving to the moon there is no difference.
Well said, even though it goes against the "bigger is better" crowd. :)

For the price of the just vortec heads, you can pick up a 8.1l big block

so I guess my idea of finding another square that they are parting out and cut the exhaust out of it so I can I have duals on a really low budget may not work?

Where are you getting 8.1s that cheap?
Just seen one locally on craigslist for $1100 or so. It was for $1500 including an allison transmission.
If the motor in my suburban takes a dump while I own it, i will be shopping for a 8.1 f repair to cost more than $800 or so

The one I saw here for $900 had low oil pressure, the other option i have seen is a wrecked truck with Allison for $2500

If you know the year/make there's a place here in WV that pulls engines and transmissions from wrecks, I'm sure you could find an 8.1 on their site and have it drop-shipped to a local UPS warehouse. They give you mileage readings and quality ratings so you get a better idea what you're getting.

I just drive my 8.1 around everyday lol. I just bought some bedliner to paint it in... Maybe someday I'll swap it into a Burban or something, but honestly, I really like the truck it's in now.
