I have been doing a lot of research and decided to pit 5.3 into my 1979 GMC High Sierra. My dad purchased the GMC new in 1979. It has not been on the road for about 15 years. I came across a great deal on a crashed 2006 Silverado with 130,000 miles. I paid $900 for it. I plan on using as much as possible from the donor truck. Engine, trans, wire harness. It will need it to pass Ca smog so the motor will stay stock. Although I have been doing quite a bit of reading on the swap, any insight into this project is welcome.

Alright, so how is it going to pass smog? I'd love to know. Would be nice to have a modern engine in a 76+ truck.

It will pass smog as long as all the smog equipment from the donor truck is on the old truck. If the donor passed smog so should the old truck. I will have to take it to a referee to verify all systems are there and functioning.
