C10 to K20 Body Swap – Driveline Issues

Good to know that it seems to be the common consensus that the issue is probably the length of the trans/tcase combo – I feel a lot more confident in the decision to move the trans/tcase forward. Our next steps will definitely be to place the cab on the frame and see how it all lines up based on...

C10 to K20 Body Swap – Driveline Issues

Good thoughts – that confirms what we were considering for our next steps. We had built a wood support to lift the cab with (as you did with yours), so we'll plan to use that to place the cab on the frame to see how everything aligns (e.g. engine, transmission shifter, etc.) and adjust things...

C10 to K20 Body Swap – Driveline Issues

TL;DR: I'm in the middle of body swapping a 1985 C10 cab & bed onto a 1984 K20 frame. The frame was purchased without a front clip, engine, or doors so specific truck options are not known. After decoding the VIN I confirmed the donor truck/frame is a Canadian truck that had a 6.2L diesel, and...

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

Good to know about the glove box door and metal plate – the truck didn't have doors when I purchased it so I'm missing a lot of option information. There was a label on the inside of the glove box, but I didn't see the option code listed on it, unfortunately

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

I think you're right – after spending quite a bit of time researching the vehicle information kit all the specs I'm seeing on my frame match that C6P option. Kinda surprised the full float rear end wasn't included given all the other HD upgrades

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

Thanks to everyone for all the info and help in trying to figure this out – I've learned a lot in this process. I should have posted some measurements earlier, but I wasn't near the frame recently until this last weekend. Here's what I found out: * Engine: 6.2 Liter (J code) *...

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

@Blue Ox Thanks for sharing this info, very helpful. Looking at my VIN it looks like this truck is a "J" code diesel as well, along with a "G" code for brakes: 8001-9001 lbs (Hydraulic only brakes). Based on this and your info it sounds like it could be an HD K20?

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

Yeah, it's a big project that keeps getting bigger as we go, but thankfully I'm able to work on this with my dad who has been a mechanic/body-man for the last 50 yrs. If not for him and his knowledge this wouldn't even be possible. I love it though, it'll bring new life to the truck that has...

    K20 vs. K30 Difference

Hi All, I'm newer to working on these trucks, and I'm just getting started on a project to turn my 1985 Chevy Scottsdale C10 automatic into a 4-wheel drive manual. I recently purchased a donor 1984 Chevy Scottsdale that was sold to me as a 3/4 ton K20, and the plan is to swap the '85 body onto...
