454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

At one point I even tried a brand new pump that put out the 18-20 psi but it really ran like crap with both sets of injectors so I ditched it. I'm still in the learning process here and by no means claim my setup is right

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

No I'm running a 95 TBI 454 in a 89 truck with factory computer but a tuned prom. The fuel pump is what came in the truck but it's putting out 30 psi so it's close to the 155lph(43.5) psi that a 96 vortec pump puts out as an upgrade recommended by Brian. I had the injectors from the 95 in there...

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

Yes I do. It is from a 95 but I've got the injectors from my 89 in there. According to Brian Harris from TBI mods these TBI 454 engines run better with the 155lph fuel pump from a 96 vortec engine. That's about 43.5 psi so I'm actually a little lower than he suggests...but I have to agree it...

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

It It was running that high, but I switched pumps and put the original back in. It's now 30 psi

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

No the 89 454 does not have a ESC or a knock sensor. The small blocks do

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

Yeah that thermal paste or compound is a straight up requirement. And dialectic grease is not a substitute.... although it's better than nothing. Back many years ago when I was learning about how to build computers we would use toothpaste as a substitute for thermal paste....in a pinch. I...

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

My bad...the ignition module had no thermal grease under it

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

It seems to be running correctly now, besides I don't want to really go changing to much until I get the tuned chip for it. I should get that Thursday and then I will go from there.

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

Well I switched computers but no change. So I pulled the dizzy and went thru it.... again only this time I pulled the ignition coil of the dizzy and noticed there was no thermal paste under it!!! So I found some and lathered it up and re-installed everything and fired it up....waited for it to...

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

ALL sensors and their connectors have been double checked. It's a brand new 3 wire heated O2 sensor and no codes are being thrown

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

1989 454 TBI that starts and idles like a dream. Has a snappy throttle response and excellent power.....until it hits operating temp of 195. Now it will still sit and idle and I can put it in second gear and creep around all day with do problems. But once I give it the gas and it's above 190 it...

    1988 v 30 454

Mine is a 1989 K3500 cab and chassis single wheel with IFS and TBI. It was not just a pick-up truck with bed removed. I've always assumed it was a GMT-400 but I've had several people tell me it's a square body which is the source of my confusion. Here's the picture of it

    1988 v 30 454

If the cab and chassis trucks continues be square body up until 91 then wouldn't a 1989 k3500 cab and chassis be a square body? This is all confusing as hell!!!!

    1988 v 30 454

What makes it a GMT and not a square body?

    Vacuum needle vibration

I've got a slightly above stock gen VI 454 with the comp cam 212/218 in a 1989 K3500. This is my vacuum gauge reading after reaching operating temp. It's got that slight vibration as seen which to my understanding could either be ignition problems or valve issue....or as I've been reading could...

    Questions on TBI

Yeah I don't know what's up with that pump and why it pumps such a high psi. And I've checked it with 3 different gauges. So I guess the regulator in the TBI can't take that high of a pressure? Should I go back with the original setup with the 30 psi and the 74lb injectors?

    Questions on TBI

Good morning everyone!! I've got a 1989 K3500 that I've recently put a new 454 in that came out ofa 1995 K2500. I left the TBI with the '95 injectors in it and I upgraded my fuel pump to the 1996 version. I've noticed it's been running rather rich and will backfire out the exhaust so loud you'll...

    Lifter selection

On the flat tappet hydraulic lifters what's the difference between the two piece lifters and the one piece lifters? What's the purpose of the two piece lifters? Is the bottom piece that touches the cam a harder piece of steel than the rest? Why not just make the entire lifter a harder piece of...
