Parts advice needed on rebuilding a 350

Planning on it, but need to narrow down the motor rebuild. I know there is a ton of factors to try and figure out, but I think I'm on the right track. I think once I call the cam manufacturer I will well on my way to what I'm looking for.

Parts advice needed on rebuilding a 350

Great info, I didn't know the manufacturer would be able to point me in the direction I want to go with the setup I have. Of course I will have the machine shop tell me what size bore the motor can take. I know that there isn't one part that is going to give me the gains i'm looking for...

Parts advice needed on rebuilding a 350

We are not concerned with rebuilding this block again. Just want to get the most hp and torque out of it but keep it as a daily driver. 4wdkc: That cam you are pointing out. I looked on summit and didn't find it. Do you know any hp numbers with that kind of setup?

Parts advice needed on rebuilding a 350

My son and I are rebuilding a 350 motor that is out of a 92’ pickup truck. It will be put into an 83’ K10 pickup. We are decent mechanics but neither one of us has rebuilt a motor yet. Looking for some guidance from some of you season pros out there that has done this a few times with success...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

I have been presented with an opportunity to buy a 97’ suburban with 350,000 miles on the engine. Needless to say it only runs on 6 cylinders but I think it has a 5.7 in it. The tranny is 7 yrs old since rebuilt. They say the truck always starts up and runs, runs slow but it runs. I have a...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

Wow some really good info here thanks. I found a 6.0 ls motor on craigslist but the $5000 price range was out of my budget. So with the LS swap would I be able to chip it to get more HP if I wanted too? I imagine I would need to have a full wiring kit and brain and all for the swap to work?

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

For the sake of easier and cheaper I think going with a pre-86 block would be a way to go. I would like to make this engine swap as easy as possible but still get the Hp that I would like to have out of the motor. I think LS motor would be the way to go if I had the time and money to modify from...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

Ok, but LS requires fuel injection and electric fuel pump or can you adapt that to old school setup? Once you put vortec heads on you have to have a vortec intake, but you could adapt that for mechanical fuel pump and carb?

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

If the difference between the LS and vortec I understand is the top end selection for the motor and cost of that. I do like staying old school that way I'm not taking this truck too far off from where it started from, as far as wiring and certain components. It looks like I will be contacting...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

Thank you for your input. I'm not a fan of putting a big block in the truck. I see the point of putting vortec heads on the motor and staying old school no wiring changes to mess with and all that. I don't know much about the LS swap. Are they just LS heads? would they still be able to keep the...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

Thanks for all the advice I know it took some time to write it up and I appreciate it. I do want to keep it on a close budget because I know how things can get away from you and before you know it you spent $6k in a motor. I should have explained this better, the $3k is just to get all the...

83' K1500 power plant build help needed.

Hi everyone, I’m new here and it looks like I will be here a lot. :) 83’ K1500 5.0 ltr. I don’t know what tranny it has in it. I don’t know too much about this truck except I was raised in the ones built in the 70’s. I had plenty of time under the hood of a 77’ 454 suburban and 75’ k1500 with a...

New Project.... need advice on motor swap

I think I would get better quality out of a crate motor than taking a risk on this CL motor. It seems like I would end paying the same amount but have more work on my hands with buying a used motor. With the chevy 12499529 motor I would get close to the 300 hp that I was hoping to get. There is...

New Project.... need advice on motor swap

CS: That is a bunch of motor options that I didn't find before. Thx. I just don't know how 290hp with 335 torque compare with today's trucks. I'm going to have to research to see what the rating would be on pulling, mileage, and getting out of its own way. The 305 in the truck now can't even get...

New Project.... need advice on motor swap

GM performance and blue print engines. There is some other in there as well. You know of a cheaper place with quality motors? I would like the HP 300 or better and torque 360 or better. If I can find a decent crate motor for about $2000 I would be happy with that. Edit: I plan on pulling the...

New Project.... need advice on motor swap

Everything sounds good. From what you are saying I can retro fit this motor to fit a carb on it? Is that a cheaper option or would it be better running down the electronics for the motor. Maybe that’s a mess I don’t want to get involved with? I did see the vortec carb intakes for about $600...

New Project.... need advice on motor swap

I’m not sure what I need to be asking. I’m new to the forum and to doing this project that I’m getting ready to jump into. Let me explain what I’m working with and what I would like to do, to see if I can get some good advice. I have an 83’ K10 with a tired 305 in it. I’m unsure of the model of...
