Anyone know were I can find one of these soft tops?... or maybe what this kind is called... having no luck on the internet, this is the only pic of one I could find...

I was thinking about going to one of the local upholstery shops and getting one made but I was hoping to find a company that makes them.... remember seeing a lot of them around when we was a kid but haven't seen any in a long time, I remember seeing one with a brand name and on it once at a car show but its been forever ago.....

SailRite has the fabric. They also supply Sunbrella. All of the companies that made soft top are out of business. I've searched for years and haven't bought one yet because they were being offered at $$$ and had torn fabric or missing supports.
I can't even find the dimensions of the support frames. I've seen 3 different styles. One guy near me has one but refuses to part with it. I can't blame him for that. And the unit would have to be disassembled to get accurate measurements. I'm not going to ask him to do that.

I too have a feeling that is custom made. Do let us know what you find out or what you decide to do or did.

I've thought of wanting a soft top for a long bed pick up. Maybe like a military style. I want it more like a camper shell shape, not like just a bed cover. I'd imagine I'd have to have that custom made. When I get serious about it, I plan on checking with some of the places that sell CUCV parts and see if the US military had something along those lines. I'd imagine they had to have had.

I have a soft top that I found on craigslist. Otherwise I think they were something like $750 new.

Its made by Softopper

I like it- it is waterproof and has held up really well. I put a cot in the back of the truck and use it to go camping.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about right there. Damn, but $750 really? I know they're not cheap but I didn't think that much.

Your truck has a 3in lift @77 K20 ? Is that all suspension? What tire size is that you're running? I know in the 16's it seems you have to get them in the Metric sizes.

I really like that topper. I poked around their website hoping they might have one for a stepper, but no luck. Do you think it would be doable to narrow a fleetside one to fit a stepper? This would be way off for me but I like that more than any other I've seen.

Yep, $749 for the topper with no options, then another $45 or so for shipping.

I have 3" blocks in back that served their purpose for a while- but time to get rid of them as I'm spending more time off road now.
I have 285/75 R16s on it. BFG mud terrains for summer and BFG ATs in the winter.

My plan is to go to a 4" lift with 315/75 R16 (load range D) tires. I'm not hauling heavy things or towing with it so I want to soften it up and make it easier on my back for my long 160 mile nasty road expeditions.

Anything is possible- but don't think it would be too easy. You'd have to cut the material down the middle to make it narrow. Then you'd have a seam that would want to leak. You'd need some very heavy duty industrial sewing machine to stitch it together. Inside it has aluminum tubes that hold the shape of it up. They all connect and pivot in the middle so you can fold it down quickly and easily. They would have to be cut down also.

Then like a normal topper the aluminum tubes mount to a long aluminum bar? plank? that clamps onto the bed rails. Stepsides don't have bed rails from what I remember. This kinda shows what the inside of it is like:

From what I saw on their site I figured I'd shorten the bars that span the middle then take it to an upholstery guy and have the cloth cut down to fit and sewn. Far as bed rails steppers do have them but the overhang out instead of inward (if that makes sense). Looked like the clamps they use wouldn't work but I'm sure I could figure something out.

Now this would all end up rather pricey but with a longbed stepper I think I'll need something custom no matter what. And of course this is all pipedreaming right now.
