Been searching on this for a while, what is the oldest gm vehicle that had an option for heated steering wheen? Wondering if it is possible to put a different upper column on existing one to achieve the feature or a completely new column from a newer truck has to be fabricated to fit.

@RetroC10Sport would know if anything would "swap" in with minimal effort.

Oh... I love the heated steering wheel on my Durango. Say what you want about TX weather. Im a Hoosier and now a baby in the cooler weather. So whenever the temp is 40 degrees or lower, it kicks on automatically.... so nice.

For trucks I would like to say that the GMT900 trucks were the first. For a car I think you can go a little earlier to the mid 00's Cadillacs. I think the issue here is the big bulky airbag that will almost certainly be on any heated steering wheel. (that cover is terrible btw haha). From this thread it seems as though you will need the heated steering wheel and clockspring so a whole column swap / splice may be in order. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/105656-how-to-heated-steering-wheel-install-gmt900-sierra/

Then theres this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Carbon-Tape-Heated-Steering-Wheel/
If you wrap that carbon tape with a heat tolerant cover it should look ok.

You could tape these to the steering wheel :gathering:

What about just going low-tech? Those old style perforated steering wheel wraps are awesome in the winter. You know, those ones you could get in multiple colors and you have to wrap the plastic rope around the entire wheel. They may not be the most trendy accessory these days, but I love them especially in cold weather.
