I just did one on my 87 R20 and it was a bear. I cut the cable and pulled it though. Before I pulled it I tapped the new one to the old one and pulled it up to the hole. the grommet was old crusty , so I slit it with a razor blade and then fitted back in on the new cable using a small screw...
Rumblegawg,
Thanks for the tip, but that seems to be the return hose from the box to the pump. I need the molded hose from the remote reservoir to the pump. Looks to be 5/8 id maybe.
I am trying to source a power steering hose from the remote reservoir to the pump on my 1987 R20 454. The hose has a 45deg bend at the bottom of the reservoir then a a small bend heading into the pump. To sharp for a straight hose to be used. I looks to be 5/8 hose? maybe 3/4.
Any help with a...
I have built both a 396 with 425hp and a 454 with 450hp. Both ran on pump gas and were very reliable gas hogs.
402 is a good engine. Should not cost you a lot to build, will have great torque and can take 400+hp with no problem.
You have the 402, if nothing is broken, you have a good start for...
In 1987 the TBI trucks had two sending units. One for the gauge, the other for the TBI fuel shut off. One is bigger the the other, can't remember which is which.
Make sure you changed the one for the gauge.
Oil pressure: 10psi for every 1000rpm is fine for a stock engine taking in account for...
You may have a bad spot on the starter solenoid. The copper contact gets a bad spot it will act up. You can pull the solenoid and take it apart and flip the copper contact point in the end cap. Quick fix.
As with any line engine built, the tolerances should be to a stock spec. That being said, you will see some sluff off of bearing and wear material on break in and the oil sample shows that. Monitor oil pressure and temp, change the oil at the interval you have been doing and repeat the oil...
Cast cams sometime came with blemishes. It's on the cam bearing end and at the end of the cam, I would say it is fine to run.
If it ran when it came out, it will run when you put it back in.
I would say yes. My 70 BB is. Most all the pictures of headers I have seen show round port. Flowtech is the only one that had a pic of sqaure ports. Maybe most of the photos are a (stock) photo of headers. Anyway, kind of misleading.
Agree with all you are saying, and I would consider the stock manifolds if they are not to buggered up, studs and what not. planning on using the O2 for sure.
I was planning on using an O2 sensor in the header. I did look at the summit ones, the same ones you posted, but the heads are square port and the headers are round. Any draw back? Did they fit well? should I be concerned about the smog pump?
Thanks!
Looking for a good set of long tube headers for my 1987 R20 TBI 454 that fit well. Also a good true dual exhaust system. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am working on getting the manifold bolts out now...%$#@!
Thanks!
