Appreciate it, but I really just want to run a carburetor and get rid of the TBI stuff that I never liked. I've already scrapped my old engine and TBI because it never ran well. Replaced sensor after sensor with no improvement before it dropped a valve.
Another update, I have a ton of parts ready for the 454. I have almost everything but a TCU, Im wondering if anyone has ran a ratchet shifter in their truck. I'm thinking I should just go manual valve body to save myself a bit of money.
Update, I'm trying to get the motor and trans in by this month so as of now I'm just waiting till I can do a big summit haul. I've also been trying to sell my obs chevy to get some more money, but buyers have been flakey.
I think this will just be considered a transmission swap now. I believe only the 91s came with 4l80s. I picked up this remanned 454 that was in a RV then pulled and cammed by the previous owner. The motor hasn't run with the new cam yet. It has a comp cams XM270H with head work to match the cam.
8.1 was considered, but too pricey. I think you've seen my other thread and seen what my old 454 looked like. I can't really find any complete LS within my budget besides affordable 350s and 454s on craigslist.
I've been pretty indecisive with all the things I could swap into the truck, I'm now considering ditching the 5.3 and just looking for a good 350 or another 454. I bought the trans first because I knew I was going to be using a 4l80 no matter what.
Well does it work as a standalone controller? I plan on running the 5.3 carbed because I've already replaced almost everything relating to fuel in my truck and I have the Delphi TBI pumps in now.
Would I be able to use the stock converter? It's an earlier model 4L80, throughout the years there have been some changes for sure and I'm looking for a later year 5.3
I did a little research on that, I believe I'd have to get the PCM flashed and calibrated, then I'll need something to tune it. It might end up costing just as much as a TCM.
Finally settling and sticking to what I'm swapping into my truck. I'm planning on having everything done before 2018. So, I don't see very many fair priced 4L80s that often so I'm picking this one up this weekend for $450 after talking to the seller. I plan on purchasing a trans controller and...
