I had similar issues once and it was caused by a cheap ignition module from a discount parts place. If it started and ran rough, I would switch it off and restart until it ran right. Issue was solved by putting a GM module in the distributor.

Sorry. Didn't think about electronic carb. Mine doesn't have that because its a manual trans I think. Anyway I didn't change module in distributor. My module has 5 pins (3 on one end 2 on the other) and the diagram to bypass ESC just involved a jumper wire between two pins or something.
