Isn't that what causes most engine and body aluminum to so pitted, flaky, dusty, brittle, and the iron to he.. kinda like it's been partially dissolved?
They gall and then are as good as welded. Old Volvos are infamous for it....everything AC or transmission related - they are incapable of assembling any part of it without the steel in aluminum stunt. Older ones went so far as to attach trailer hitches to the (aluminum) bumper bar. I had a 20" cheater bar, with a 36" breaker bar on top of it - put my arms against the rear axle and my legs into the bars. It ripped out a tennis ball size section of the bumper before the bolt would let go (and yes, this after hours of heat, PB, etc).
I see that anymore and just know its time for C-4 or heavy artillery.
