so i was told i should start a build thread to log my work so im going to start it now though not much has been done.

much more to come just going to be slow moving for next few months atleast. holidays and what not.

but here is my truck. his name is Peter. he has a 454 with a nv4500 5 speed transmission.

when i go it the heater was not working. got around to fixing it. found that the heater hoses where not hooked up properly.

you can see in this pic that the hose comes from the water pump out to the heater core. well i moved that hose from the pump to the intake and all is good now.

Also went ahead and flushed the heater core before i found that out.

here is what came out of the heater core.

thought i flushed it all out but now my coolant looks like that too so i suppose i will be flushing my coolant soon.

did some other important things like got my my shift knob put on.

nv4500 shifters dont have threads for shift knob so i made it have threads with my wonderful welding skills.

A grinder and uhh tape? makes me the welder i aint.

spider man shift knob is where its at. (trucks named peter as in peter parker who is spider man) more spiderman themed mods to come.

aaand last thing for this post just in case anyone has interest.

one of my other many projects. Ealanor my 97 civic hatch.

Nice truck! Civic is clean too. Running an intercooler?

I'll need to do the same thing for my NV4500 shifter (I'm in the process of swapping it in). I bought a new shift knob and lever, and sure enough, you can't unthread the factory knob. So I'll probably be chopping and welding!

    thanks!

yea civic is intercooled. currently at 11psi. made 200hp on that then puked the headgasket and havnt gotten back to the dyno yet. have boost controller on it just havnt gotten it working yet. basically i got it running again and its sat ever since. lol. has water meth ready to go too but again havnt worked on it in a while.

im going to suggest if you have the same shifter ad me is cut off that cross hatched section that you see in my pic. that way the rubber cover will not be too short. thats why tape is on mine just to cover it up. or you could remove the rubber and just paint it i personally didnt want to do that though.

yea i go back and forth on if im going to paint it or not. knowing me i will paint it lol.

nice. hook me up with that valve cover i need it for my other civic lol. i started to polish one up and after about 10 minutes of sanding i just said screw this lol.

you went all out with the tuck too. i was too lazy to do all the work in the bay to make it clean like yours. i id my own wire tuck that pretty sure the 400 dollers people charge for tucked harnesses are very much worth it lol. ill never do it again.

soooo trans took a dump last night.

been having 5th gear issue with the NV4500.

drove the truck 3 blocks to my wifes grandmas house and had to turn around so i could park. put it in reverse then it never came out of reverse.

had to have my buddy tow me back to my house with his jeep no less. so embarrassing lol.

clutch in and jeep in first gear lol. thankfully it was not a far distance or i would have had to get a real tow.

so i guess my plans of a new trans are expedited. going to have to wait till after the holidays no matter what though.

    oooookay.

so after much reading and crying and my wallet begging me to feed it.

ive decided to move to the dark side that is instead of keeping this truck a 5 speed or even a manual at all i think im going to put a turbo400 in it.

i can be persuaded otherwise most likely so if you guy want to see it stay manual then please convince me.

    here is my situation.

i have a turbo 400 in my 72 chevy longbed right now. it ran fine when it was parked like 6 years ago or so. the engine in it will be pulled at some point and that truck has plans for much much more than this truck does.

so i figure i can steal the trans from it and possibly the flexplate and even the converter though i think id get a new converter for it.

here is where i really need some input. i figure i should rebuild the trans. i want to put a full manual valve body in it and really want a reverse shift valve body. probably a mild shift kit.

what do i do about making it hold the power. currently the 454 is stock but it will be in the 500ish HP range when im done. id like to build the trans while its out so i dont have to take it out again.

what do i need? does it need the upgraded sprag and shit just to hold 500? or would just a simple overhaul kit do? im currently looking at monster transmissions kits but im open to other companies.

and if beefing up IS needed is it something i could do myself or would i be best to have someone do it? ive rebuilt honda manual transmissions before but that is the extent of my transmission work in the past.

any help is appreciated and any insight is very much appreciated.

    thanks guys.

Dual feed the TH400 and it'll be fine.

Sell the NV4500 and finance your entire 454 build, people drool over them for some reason, I think they suck lol.
