Thank you in advance for any input you may have.
I just bought a 79 k10 franken-truck, (not the original motor, transmission, rearend) and am beginning to find out more and more about my truck. I know that my truck has a 350, with a 4bbl edelbrock carb, and has a TH 350 transmission. My question is:
I am not quite sure what this transmission is capable of, and what it's best attributes are. Im a little concerned, because with my current setup, I am unable to cut the tires loose and spin out?
I know on the surface, my criteria may seem a bit childish, but I previously owned an 87 Scottsdale C10 with a 350, and couldn't keep those tires from spinning out.
My current truck appears to be, and sounds like, it's running strong, and efficiently. I have replaced all the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor.
Is my expectation, of being able to spin the tires on this beautiful 350 sbc, with this transmission, to high?
Let the education begin...now!

It's not the transmission. They are plenty strong enough. I had one in this.

You went from a C10 to K10. It's heavier and being a '79 probably only has 3.08's in it for gears (or close to it). Not to mention it's also probably an np203 which is full time 4wd. Just need to free up the drivetrain a bit. Could also be the tire compound. I had a Duramax with a 120hp tune and could blaze the tires until I put a set of Dick Cepeks on it. They just stuck to the ground.

No, I've always wanted to go but never made it. That was at the New England Summer Nationals.

I had it between '98 and '03 but I don't believe I ever left New England with it. Maybe you saw it in pics somewhere.

I'm assuming your old truck had a 700R4? 700's have a really deep 1st gear compared to th350s or th400s. Which will put more torque down and make it easier to spin them.

But in terms of strength of a th350, they are plenty strong for most small blocks in stock form. Modified they will handle a hot small or big block no issue.
David Freiburger runs a gearstar th350 in the Crusher Camaro, a car that runs in the 10's and will pull the front tire off the ground.

If you have a 203 that hasn't had a part time kit and manual front hubs installed, it is a full time transfer case, which will make it more difficult to spin tires due to drag/parasidic losses.

As mentioned above, if you spinning, you ain't winning.
