I have a 2WD 3/4-ton (1980 C20) with the granny gear SM465 manual transmission. Where can I find an inexpensive overdrive unit for it? The ones from Gear Vendors look nice, but $3,000 is too rich for my blood. Anyone have one they've been looking to get rid of?

Nv3500 from a later body style should fit. Might have to change to a hydraulic clutch pedal setup and a new drive shaft, would need on of those with the gear vendors unit too though. If you got to have same strength and low first like the 465, the only option is nv4500. Idk if that was ever offered in 2x4, and they aren't cheap.

If noise isn't an isssue for you, you can try the ranger over drive. It goes between your trany and the engine. Way cheaper than gear vendor.

Only thing is your have to shift the whole shabang back about 7"........:(

I've got a DN2 unit on a turbo 400. I've been planning on putting it in my suburban, but still haven't got to it. What gear rear end you have? In some cases it is way easier to change out rear end than put in a overdrive. I'm tempeted to just pull the 3:73 gears out and put in 3:42. be a 10% overdrive with very little cost

To be honest I haven't the slightest. I just found the link while researching od's and it seemed inexpensive.

You could get a NV4500 from a 88 up chevrolet truck 2wd. For the best ratios you would need to get one from behind a gas burner instead of a diesel. Search car-part.com and you should be able to find one.

The Ranger gear splitter is still available thru advance adapters. They are out of stock right now but said they could build one in 5 to 10 days. .27 overdrive( I believe thats right) and about 1550.00. Almost half of Gear vendors. Only downfall is shifter moves back 7.5 inches.I am looking at one of these for my K30
