Here's the diagram for a 1979 California truck with a 350 (upper right). Go to Figure 30 in the link if you need it larger. It is referred to as the EFE in the diagram. Your rod connects to the heat riser. The nipple connects to the ported vacuum switch. On my '85 the hose goes to the ported vacuum switch located on top of the thermostat housing.
