Attached is a picture of the underside of the hood on my 1980 c10 Silverado. I figure it to be a light but I cannot locate anything that seems to fit there.

Looks like an aftermarket under hood light. I don't believe they ever came factory in a square, doesn't look like any style of under hood light I've seen.

There was apparently an optional (and uncommon) light that went there.

But in the cases I've seen, there were some late 70's trucks that had a bracket that bolted there. It was used in conjunction with another bracket on the firewall. It was used to help retain the hood in a front end collision.

Yes, Rusty Nail, I’m still here. Remember all that blather about modifying my mint, 52K 305 motor? All for naught... I blew a connecting rod out the bottom just cruising down the highway at 70. She now has a new crate 350 with Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel, stainless headers and exhaust to match. Go big or go home, right? Although big is really a big block, but I can’t afford that. She is my daily driver after all.

Which crate did you buy AND are you happy with it?

I never got around to hopping up that 305. Did nothing at all. She blew all on her own. I don’t think that truck was ever driven over 45 mph.... but who knows.
The motor was a base long block from Chevy performance through Summit with 249 hp and 304 torque. Don’t know what a 290 is.

Yup, sadly it does.

Hino 3.4 V6's are supposedly indestructible in the 3rd gen 4runners.

Mine has 178K on it.

I have heard of one tossing a rod at 80K.

Why = ?


It sucks, but hopefully you got more than my 180 HP stock out of your new 350.

May be a good thing in the long run.

Gm sells a crate engine rated at 290 horse ...truck guys seem to end up disappointed with em . Good luck with yours.

What kind of oil are you using? Curious.
