For those of you who are familiar with differences in truck cabs between years, I’m looking for some help/advice. My truck is a ‘78 4spd K15, but the cab is off an ‘87 Chevy R10 automatic. Someone cut away the tunnel on the ‘87 and bolted in a doghouse cover that I would assume came off the original cab. Here’s a picture of my cab halfway soundproofed for reference:

Now I’m looking to buy a molded carpet but I’m not sure which to purchase. The ‘87 R10 A/T carpet looks like it has a short trans tunnel compared to the others:

But the ‘87 R10 M/T carpet seems to have a totally different seat area form than what my truck has on it:

Meanwhile, a ‘78 K15 M/T carpet looks like it might fit the seat area form and it probably has a tall tunnel shape, but my cab is 9 years newer so I’m not sure it will fit correctly:

Those of you that have done cab swaps or worked with multiple generations, do you have any advice/info on this?

Thank you!

I would go with the 78 because of the high hump. How often are you going to be looking under the seat?

Ona side note: before you place matting on the dr. side, line up all the holes and cut them out before you have a bunch of slices looking for bolt holes.

Thanks dvdswan, I was thinking the same thing but I wanted to check with the experts to make sure the cab floor was the same form or that I wouldn’t run into some other unforeseen issue.

Thanks for the advice on the matting - I actually laid the whole thing down yesterday. I found that for the larger holes like for the seat, you can press into the general area of the hole to get a pretty good indentation for cutting. The whole thing turned out great, I’m looking forward to seeing how quiet the truck is once I put in mass backed carpet.

Here's what an '85 high hump looks like for reference. I have a TH-400, NP 205 set up in mine. I'd go for the high hump version.

Update: I can't get any good pics of it, but I ordered the kit for a '78 M/T and it fits well over the doghouse and against the contours of the cab floor. Slight trimming around the carpet edges, as expected. Thanks to all for the help

How much trimming? Are you overall happy with it? I am having issues with ACC Carpet. You have the same floor as I do...my frame is a 79 k20. My 85 cab was a C30 manual trans and I swapped in a sm465/np205. I tried the 1985 C30 manual trans carpet and it was way huge. I also tried the 1985 auto carpet and it was to small. I am on the fence on ordering the turbo400 high tunnel version or the same manual trans version you ordered. The pics on ACC's site are the same for both carpets.

I don’t have any pics of the carpet installed at the moment, but it seemed to fit the contours of the bottom of the truck well. I aligned the carpet to the form of the floor, the back of the carpet came right up to the bottom of the back wall of the cab and I just ran the firewall side up as far as it would go. I cut away a bit of the firewall side to get around the clutch linkage and some of the mounting brackets. There was a good bit of the carpet near the doors and kick panels that needed to get cut away. I will say that the carpet wasn’t skin tight, especially in that corner where the seat pan drops to the left and right to meet the doors, and drops forward to meet the foot boards. That rounded corner right there was a little “splayed out”, if you get what I’m saying. I had to do a little pulling, tugging, and selective notching to get it all to fit, and to be honest I still haven’t 100% adhered the carpet down because I still plan to run wires under the carpet for a map light and speakers. The rest of the form fit well though, and I’d prefer to have to trim the edges rather than not having enough material to run up to the edges of the floor. For reference, I bought with the mass backing and I had laid down butyl mat underneath.

Following. I'm about to order carpet for my 85 to wrap up this trans swap. I made my tunnel a removable access panel version. The plate I made to cover the hole didn't change the overall shape of the tunnel so I'm still good on that issue.

Just so y’all know I ordered my carpet from ACC . Fit was ok but the foot pad piece on the drivers side was crooked . I couldn’t move the carpet around enough to make it straight because then the molded parts wouldn’t line up . It’s off quite a bit which is bad considering the price . Can’t really tell in this pic but it is . I’ll be using mat to cover it up

Okay so carpet arrived yesterday. It appears that the C30 manual trans carpet is very close if not the same as the K30 carpet. It has a lot of excess material all around. There is some extra in the tunnel area as well. Since I have no other options...I am going to cut basically 3" on the left and right sides, plus 4" from the firewall. The back looks minor. Sucks cutting the sides as i will lose the finished edge where your kick plate meets at the corner.
