Water pump/power steering pump, shared mounting bolt/stud

I bought a new power steering pump mounting bracket from Summit. It is so extremely different from the original, that at first, I thought it was the wrong mount. Lol

Anyway…
The water pump & power steering pump share a couple mounts.

The previous owner stacked nuts for spacers on that particular mount & The belt is crooked, because the Power steering pump is skewed.

Would somebody please show me a picture of that mount, in it’s proper fashion? I want to make sure the belt is straight. Its the two mounts that is shared with the water pump that concerns me.

sorry, not a very good picture of the lower bolt.
I advise using the new mount. All my Oe small blocks laying about were incorrectly done too so I had three engines with the same brackets but all three were done different. I
I can show you mine but I know it’s not perfect. I have it actually stacked out on a spot from I assume being bent so it didn’t want to align nice. Pulley could have differentoffset too

My mistake…

upon removal of the power steering bracket, it does not “share” a mounting bolt with the water pump. The inner lower bolt, mounts TO the water pump.

If it takes some of the flimsy out of the oem bracketry especially when all mine clearly been misaligned for some time or not used right and makes putting tension simpler I’m all for it

Simpler? Lol…

I’m feeling pretty simple, right now.

Maybe I’m just having a bad day, but figuring out how this thing bolts up, is kicking my ass.

…sigh

I am not this stupid. Why is this bracket cleaning my clock?

does the new bracket bolt to part of the old bracket?

I don’t understand how it’s held in place.

There was absolutely nothing “flimsy” about the OEM bracket I took off.

I give up for the night.

I cannot figure out anyway this bracket fits.

there’s no where to attach it from or to.

I’m completely lost

The stationary bracket assembly should mount similar to this factory bracket in the diagram. The adjustment bracket should be easy to figure out from there.

I've installed lots of aftermarket alternator brackets, but never P/S pump bracket. Keep in mind that factory P/S pump bracket was built to go on the engine in that truck with the options and emissions equipment it came with. The summit bracket is designed to attach to as many small blocks as possible so will be more generic.

I suspect that Buckets diagram will help you out, and I hope once you get it installed you'll share some photos of it!

Interesting…

If the two bracket bolts just bolt to the block, I guess you’re just supposed to discard the nuts & washers? Why does it even come with em? and there isn’t any bolt hole in the back of the pump where all diagrams (I've found or been shown) where the bracket is supposed to mount. There is one in the front, but not on the opposing side (back).

that only leaves two bolts one on the front bottom & the adjustable bar also on the front) holding the entire pump.

talk about “flimsy”..!

i don’t understand

…And i’m not exactly sure where to attach the adjuster arm to the engine.

everything I’ve researched, and everything that has been suggested, say that you mount it to the water pump, but does that mean you remove a water pump bolt and attach it to the outside of the water pump or do they mean the additional mount (The one that does not bolt to the block) added to the water pump, specifically for the power steering pump.

and that’s a lot of torsion to put on a single bolt. What’s to keep it from loosening, from just simple vibration?
