Wanted: 1976 GMC Grill, AND 1976 GMC Tailgate

As the title says I am looking for those parts for my build. Color of tailgate does not matter. I am not concerned about minor flaws or small dents.

The grille, I would like to get one in decent, useable condition, prefer not to have one that is busted up. If I have to do some minor work to make it nice, that is ok!

Does the 76 tailgate have the wide stainless band or the narrow one?

Wish I could answer that for you, but I do not know. I think this tailgate is the one that has GMC stamped in the center of the tailgate, and that center section of the gate is indented into the tailgate....."I think". I am still learning a lot on this particular truck.

Those are neat grills, look like 73/74. Would look nice on my 76, but I would really like to find an original. If I cannot find an original I may do some custom work on the chevy grill that is in it..

Thanks Big Chip! I found some grills on the car-parts site, one place that has one won't ship it, guess I don't blame them. I have not used either of those sites, so I will see what I can come up with.

Pretty sure I have a nice '76 GMC Tailgate. It does have the 4(?) holes drilled in it for the stainless trim but could be welded up if you are interested in spending the money on shipping but I imagine it would be cost prohibitive. I've been buying every 73-80 tailgate I see on CL trying to find a good one for my sons truck and the GMC one is the nicest I've gotten so far. I was going to just use the CHEVROLET stainless on it until I find a Chevrolet tailgate.

Where are you located? I am in S.E. MN.....

Will a 1981 to 1987 C10 Fleetside Chevy tailgate fit this truck?? I found one on craigslist that has one minor flaw, but no GMC/Chevrolet stamping in it.

This tailgate has the indentation through the center of it too, a lot like the 76 GMC tailgates I have seen.

Here are some pictures of the correct style for a 76. What I’m unsure about is if that year had a wide band or narrow band like the ones I have. I’m not sure of in 76 is if GMC was centered or offset but the recess was the same style.

I bought that from a guy up in the U.P. and it was a haul to go get it. They’re out there but if you live 2 hours from civilization like I do you’ll probably end up traveling to get stuff.

Here is the grill I recently found in a salvage yard, but I had to do a complete restoration on it as it had broken pieces as well. Chrome trim bars will be added when I get around to installing them. Those grills are out there but you got to look for them.
