Vortex heads

Keep seeing people refer to vortex heads. Do they really flow better than the factory vortec versions?

I have a set of "E-Tec" heads......Edelbrock's version. We set the 2 styles side by side and the Edelbrock's are far beefier and better ported.

I know the diff between old style and vortec....anxious to see the diff with these.

I personally prefer the cyclones. They are rare, but can be identified by a tornado stamping on the mating surface. You have to pull them to know for sure.

Chock it up to something similar to saying warsh when you really mean wash. Vortex = Vortec

You're probably talking about me. I always get Vortec and Vortex mixed up. And then I can't remember which is witch.

Vortec - The one's that came out n the 90's with the heart shaped chamber. THESE are the one you want. And there are aftermarket choices in both alum or cast.
Spelled with capital 'V'. Patented. Also came with various valve size options. Best to stay away from old GM Vortec. They flow great yes but are flimsy and crack easy with heat. You can't really mill much off as they're thin. If the seats are gone, pounding in new ones and even valve guide is tricky to not crack the damn things. If you find some with lows miles you're a winner. But check with Superman X-ray micro vision for cracks, like in the bowl coming off the valve guides. AND, make sure they not warped, because they are too thin to mill down. If they are warped most very likely they were
overheated and thus, they will probably be cracked anyway.
IMO, get unfinished Vortec style cast heads and a good machinist to finish them up for ya!

Or **** it and get 781s and a BB.

Vortex... as far as I know, not a real trade name. These ones have the cast in swirled valve guides... these are best tied to neck of a lefty before they accidentally fall into the brink.
