turn signal problems

is the turn signal opposed to turn off as you turn the wheel back if so how would i go about fixing this problem

There is a plastic cam built into this piece behind the base of the steering wheel:

That cam lobe trips the springs (red arrows) on the turn signal assembly and cancels the turn signal, moving the turn signal stalk back to the center "off" position. Some times those springs break, or pop out, or the little white tab holding them in (green arrows) break, and the spring pops out. That most likely is where your problem is for no self cancelling.

90% of the time, those little spring bumpers are whats broke. I usually get replacements from the junkyard so I don't have to replace the whole turn signal switch. I just go around the GM section and take them from steering columns that already have the steering wheel removed.

But it all depends...You can go to the junkyard, get the springs and slip them in your pocket or just get new and know they are new.
