I'm looking at getting a true track for my 10.5. I havent done much rear end work. Keeping my gears I have is it just a matter of swapping the ring gear and shimmying it back in or is a whole process?

It's the whole set up again.

IMO spending time and $ for a traction device in a 10 bolt is liken to trying to hop up a 305.
Consider a 14 bolt FF.

What is the difference between a FF and non-FF? Is a non-FF not any good? Just took my entire rear end apart and getting ready to rebuild soon with a TrueTrak, so reading up on all the info

FF is always the strongest and safest. The wheels are supported by large bearings on the end of the axle tube. A non-FF holds the wheel by the axle which spins on bearings inside the axle housing.

Everyone need to know about the amazing GM 14 bolt, so go here and become and expert.

Yeah but like.... isn’t the 10.5 a FF?
what lug pattern are you runnin? 14BFF in a 5 lug truck isn’t going to be cheap. Lotta machine work needed. Same with the 14BSF. It at least comes readily in 6 or 8 lug.

I would NOT reuse gears on a new Trutrac.
i also would NOT recommend you try it on your own. Unless you are a well versed mechanic, or have seen someone do it. Yeah it sounds easy but you gotta be ready to pull that ****** out 10 times. Will you NEED to? Maybe... maybe not. Depends on your understanding of what you’re seeing in the pattern. Do you have a press? Dial indicator? Torque wrench? Patience?
All of this and then some is needed.

If you're talking about a 14 bolt, there are the good ones which are 10.5 and the semi floater which is a 9.5 ring gear.

I see what I did here, I mistook the OP's 10.5 as saying he had a ten bolt..

Flyboy hasn't been back since he posted two months ago anyway. I think he flew away.
