Looking for any available information on a fixed steering column for an 83 c-10 three speed on the column. Mine was working fine. Now there is an issue in the column with the shifter. I can’t grab any gear. All the linkage under the hood to the transmission is perfect.

So does the shifter stick just flop now like it's not connected to anything?

The linkage probably just needs to be adjusted at the base of the column at the firewall. I had that issue with not being able to grab reverse. I found a video on the procedure, and in about 5-10 minutes all gears could be shifted into without any problems.

No, there is some friction. It feels like something isn’t aligned. Possibly like something inside the column isn’t lining up with what it should.

The adjustment is a lot easier than you would think. Mine is an older model, but I'm sure the adjustment procedure is very similar. I only needed a wrench and a screwdriver to align the two pieces that the shifting rods go to, and the piece in between the moves the two. Neutral, loosen the nuts to the rods, making sure the transmission levers at the side are also in neutral position, use the screwdriver to align the three pieces, sorry I cannot recall what they are called, tighten the nuts, verify shifting is correct. If you catch all the gears, good, you're done. If not, do it again.

It's zoomed in so it's fuzzy, but these are the pieces I am talking about... In neutral the slots will line up when in adjustment. Out of adjustment they will be off and you cannot catch the gears.

You see the two that have the rods attached to them? One is for Reverse/First and the other is for Second/Third. That piece in between them is what moves fore and aft when the shift lever is pulled or pushed away from you inside the cab. All three of those need to be aligned, you'll see where the middle piece has a slot that catches either the R/1 lever, or the 2/3 lever depending on which gear you're trying shift into. Very basic mechanism, but will shift like butter when properly aligned.

I was thinking it could be something like that. Would you be able to find that video and share it with me? I have no been able to locate one. All I
I misspoke, it is three pieces that need to be aligned. You see the two that have the rods attached to them? One is for Reverse/First and the other is for Second/Third. That piece in between them is what moves fore and aft when the shift lever is pulled or pushed away from you inside the cab. All three of those need to be aligned, you'll see where the middle piece has a nub, if you will, and the nub catches either the R/1 lever, or the 2/3 lever depending on which gear you're trying shift into. Very basic mechanism, but will shift like butter when properly aligned.

The picture helped. That was the first thing I did. The issue I am having is that when you shift on the column it does not move those. It’s hit or mis. Most of 5he time it’s is a miss. If for some reason you do manage to move that, it doesn’t move enough to kick it into gear.

I am pretty sure it must be something inside the column. Everything from the bottom of the steering column to the trans is aligned.
