as some of you may remember, i managed to destroy an np208 transfer case.

brief background:
i'm a retired army cavalry scout and rated 100% broken by the v.a.

6 kids, 4 have their own families now and 2 still at home.

my only son calls me up to tell me his power steering pump pulley flew off his 2009 dodge ram (i drive on 05). he also asked me how i was doing with the truck he sold me (the 85 k20 aka 'flying turd')

i told him about the transfer case.
he called me up today saying he went to a pick and pull (i live 30 minutes away from any town, he lives where the 'action' is) and had a transfer case for me.
(like any parent i told him he was getting paid so he could feed his own kids. tried to tell me 'it's all good dad')

so, while getting a nice visit in with the boy, who was a wheeled vehicle mechanic in the army for a few years, the flying turd soars again.

the 'new' case is of 1982 vintage and shifts between modes and range like butter.

the 4wd indicator light works now as well. (broken switch housing on the old case).

just need new u-joint for the rear driveshaft and i'll be back to where i was.

i did fill the case with atf and front wheel drive it 50 feet into the garage.

so, THANKS to everyone in my broken truck thread.
looks like i'm back to building.

:)

indicator lights are the coolest.

now, if only the oil pressure gauge would work correctly.

Explain, did it work before? The needle is pegged in the pic, does it stay there?

sorry for the lack of details.

no, the gauge has looked that way since i bought the truck.
i figured i'd need a new sending unit or a new gauge.

the needle doesn't move with key on/off or engine running/off.

The printed circuit behind the gauges was the culprit on mine. They are reasonable($$) to replace, I was too lazy and just superglued the copper back down. The plug going into the circuit board can get wonky because you don’t have a lot of room to manipulate it and pushing it in can push the contact strip away from the plug.
Just some cheap remedies that worked for me.

While you’re at it, You may consider getting on eBay and ordering some cheap LED replacements for the dash. That made a huge difference in night driving for me.

Glad it's fixed. Now to track down those gauge power/ohm/ground issues.
