I'm about to order a GV OD thus changing directions and putting my 205 round pattern behind the 400.

My 205 is a new, never installed NOS unit with the long input shaft.

I'm trying to figure out if this will mount directly to the 400? It currently has the factory 32 spline input np 208.

Just wondering if a short input is going to be required?

I'm pretty sure you have the correct combinations there, you should be good to go.
The short input NP 205 ,earlier figure 8 bolt pattern, takes the longer car or B.O.Y. 400 output shaft.

I tend to agree. The other concern I've discovered is the adapter or pedestal between the two. It appears there is a short or long version and I believe I have the short version. I notice AA makes an adapter that's about 1.625 thick. I'm wondering if that's needed in my situation?

You need the factory short style 400/205 adapter ('85+), the 400 output for the 208 should be the correct one for the round pattern, long input 205.

An NOS 205 is some pretty cool stuff, post pics when you can. May I ask where you found it?

Got it from a guy off Pirate about 3 years ago. He ran a small shop that converted trucks to bombproof setups for the forest service, search & rescue etc. He was closing shop and was selling his NOS inventory of stuff. Paid $300 for a new bare case with long input. If i weren't new to this stuff at the time I would have bought several of them.
