I pulled the transmission out of my 78 Sierra. I'm pretty sure it isn't the original, but I started tearing it apart and noticed that hole and I wasnt sure if it was supposed to be there or not and I was hoping someone could help me with this problem of whether it's supposed to be there or not. Thanks in advance.

Go to a trans shop and give them your case, often they’ll have scrap cases that they’ll cut your missing piece from and they may be able to weld it in and repair it for you

I assume that’s looking UP into the valve body area? What’s the other side look like? I don’t have a TH350 case here to look at

You mean the factory didn't include a jagged irregular shaped inspection hole in that location?

If the hole were in the bellhousing you could easily fix it with an Ultra Bell, that's not in the bellhousing it's further back.

Every TH350 ever made has that hole.
