I got this old Sun timing light.
Sun Gun 7501.
Was a CL find and worked fine in his garage.
Got it home and it worked fine on the square.
Put it in the file cabinet in the spare room...fast foreward to yesterday and it now fires sporatically.
I have never fropped it or beat it...nuttin'

So anybody ever find a place that might repair timing lights?

Dismantle it and the pick up clamp and look for broken or soldered connections, with age soldered connections deteriorate and get sketchy or wires break

@hey mister do you have an MSD box or similar? These can cause erratic flashing.

No aftermarket ignition.
Stock replacement HEI dizzy.
My other light, Actron works just fine.

So funny thing...
I can hook up the Sun, and get it to flash the strobe 1 to 4 flashes, then it stops.
I'll let off the trigger for a few seconds and then pull the trigger and it will flash 1 to 4 times, then quit again.

Now, I have opened the gun up and took an ohm meter to the trigger and leads coming in and everything checks good and the solder joints are also solid.
I don't see any broken or burnt connections.
I've also tried clamping the induction coil to other plug wires with no change in behavior.

So for clarity, I can pull the trigger and maybe get 3 flashes and then nothing.
Let off trigger and wait a few seconds...
Pull trigger again and maybe get 1 flash, then nothing.
Let off trigger and wait...
Pull trigger and get 4 flashes, or get just 1 or 2 flashes, then nothing.
All the clamps are very clean and rust free.

It is a super clean light.
That's why I'd like to fix it.

Just curious & dumb question, did you have the inductive lead arrow facing the plug? I’ve had them not correct and timing light acted up and misbehaved.

Search in Florida, I have a Sun 1115 scope that the infrared was wigging out. The guy knew exactly what was wrong and had the parts in stock. Not sure if they deal with timing lights but worth a try. Can't remember the contact information.

Just bought a replacement for a Snap on timing light. Wasn't flashing all the time. Although I like the light would cost more to repair it than buy a new one. Glad I did, light was setting back the timing when at zero. Only had 23 degrees total advance.

edit, not that item but I think this is the company. He is very knowledgeable. Give him a call. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134200646444
