I have a bed I replaced off my 81. It is an Indiana bed, it is rusty , but complete, except tailgate. If someone needs a short bed to throw on a work truck/farm truck its free for the taking. I thought I would offer it up here, someone might need a beater bed. You pick up in Indiana by need picked up in 2-3 weeks. Topper already gone.

Don't happen to have a longbed hiding out amongst the trees? Still looking for one.

I was thinking of you when I saw his post. You may need to just get a short box and lengthen it?

Do the bedsides have big holes in them where the fenders mount up? Mine do, lol.

Where at in Indiana? I should be passing through sometime next week.

Thanks for thinking of me.
I looked at that more than once. You can build a bed out of parts-sides, cross beams, rails, fenders etc. The only thing no one makes is the longbed step. They have after market SNB steps but not long. I'm a great wood worker, but have never done much metalwork. Just looking at the difference, it would take a master metal worker with an English wheel to duplicate the LNB step.

Well shoot, that's even right along the way. After thinking about it more, stopping along the way would be hard to get figured out. Unless you are available any time of the day and your road is accessible by a long hood Pete and a 53ft trailer with axles all the way to the rear, lol. Indy area is an easy drive from home though.

I was thinking it would fairly simple to "Stretch" a short bed, but I just looked up a photo, and it definitely wouldn't be an easy job. Have you looked at older longbed stepsides? Like from the 60-66 and 67-72 era trucks? Or are you a purist? What if you found an older bed and then bolted on Squarebody fenders? I like to think outside the box.

I'm nearly certain that the only difference is the location of the bolt holes for the fenders and tail light brackets. That's way easier to overcome than a bed that's too short.

My thoughts as well. I looked at the shapes of the boxes and they all look very much alike. So fixing bolt holes and drilling new holes for square fenders may be a viable option.
