Steering wheel clear coat remover

wifes car's steering wheel has partial diameter in plastic that is clear coated. Trouble is it is
Starting to peel off and raising up. I need to get clear off, but don't want to harm plastic
Itself. PITA? Need suggestions. Thanks.

I've read about vegetable oil working to do what you're trying to do. I might also try acetone. It's stronger so if you did want to give it a go, I'd try it on a small spot before doing the whole section.
