steering column clarification

I have a 1980 K10

the steering wheel is way to close to my body.

I have read every post on this I could find, most were rather old.

Are there any soultions to this isssue ? I dont mind replacing the column if there is a fix for the problem.

Anyone have any luck with this issue ?

I believe the other option is installing an 81 & up seat. My last truck was a '79 and my '85 seems to have a thinner seat back. The photo of the '85 does not have the seat all the way back.

I replaced the steering wheel (16”?) with a GM stock wheel from a ‘94 sedan (14.5”) Looks great and gives me more room.

I’ve read that some people get a bit more room by adding spacers under the front seat attachment.

Otherwise try Flaming River, Ididit, or Speedway Motors for a new column. Stock is a 33” and you can get down to 28” I think.
