I got a 1983 gmc high sierra and to turn it on you need to pull a rod in the steering column. The key doesn’t do anything(it freely turns) there a way I can get that reconnected somehow?

Sure John, but we aren't there with you so it's kind of hard to guess what might be missing, broken or wrong. Some pictures of the rod, the column ect would be really helpful. Tilt wheel or no tilt? auto trans or manual? cruise or no cruise?

Also your truck year in your info is 1083, so I'm assuming it's and 83'

It is a tilt and no cruise and an automatic. It has a square pan and 16 bolts holding it up. Would that be a th700?

Did we just jump to a transmission question, with 16 bolts holding what up? The tranny pan? Or the steering column? That's way to many bolts for a column, so I'll assume tranny pan.

If it has overdrive it's a 700R4 there is no such thing as a TH700

This is what a TH350 pan looks.

700r4 is what I meant sorry. There are many things wrong and I’m trying to find a starting point. Know a good place to get a steering column?

John, in my area I find that lots of guys are parting out old trucks. I think a Column could be had for short money
