Starter sometimes just quits

My 77 c20 usually starts with no problems l, but whenever drive for more than an hour, shut the truck off, and then try to start it, the starter won't even turn, no noise no nothing. I don't even know if power is getting to it. After about 15-20 min, it will start like nothing happened. Any clue as to what this is?

The starter is getting hot from the exhaust and engine heat. After cooling down it works again. You can buy a heat shield or a heat wrap or a new starter which I would protect with a heat shield

Also check the condition of the wires at the solenoid and battery.
