1978 Chevrolet k10 bonanza 350sbc sm465 and np205 tcase.
When I got the truck the speedometer didn’t work, take it all apart test everything individually it worked, reassemble it would work the first time the truck moved but once you stopped again it didn’t work. Now it doesn’t do anything at all. The gauge works, cable is good, and the “ratio adapter?” Off the tcase seems to work fine. How do I go about digging deeper into the transfer case to find out what isn’t working? Cable spins speedometer by hand when removed from tcase, the adapter piece spins both sides, but something isn’t driving that adapter piece. I’m not 100% sure it’s a 205, the shift pattern is 4l, N 2H, 4H and my research comes to a 205.

The problem is in the metal part, it has a K stamped on it. The cable spins freely in the end of it, I put liquid nails as a temp fix and it worked for about thirty seconds before Speedo dropped back to 0

Does anyone have any ideas on where I could possibly get the driven gear or one that would replace it? Transmission center and torque king have nothing available. I also noticed the speedometer has to be sitting at a weird angle or the needle doesn’t return to 0, so I have too left screw removed, too right half way in, and bottom screw all the way in.

Check the square taper on the ratio adapter key, mine started acting up and thought it was the speedometer gear on the input shaft but it turned out to be the ratio key. They sell these on eBay and website.

My key looked square, and I also tried running speedo cable directly to tcase and you could spin the end of the cable with jt in the driven gear, I jb welded it and so far it’s working perfectly fine. Now time to fix the sloppy shifter. I’ve replaced one pin and the spot welds on the very bottom of the shifter

I just jbwelded my square piece into the speedo driven gear worked fine until I put the gauge back in yoo tight I guess? My Speedo gauge has to be fairly loosely screwed into the dash or it doesn’t work
