Now I see the authors, you've suggested BOTH the same books I've used for years. Thing is, these books were written Pre Vortec, so to be modern and up to date, might consider later written books, however, there is a ton and wealth of info in these for the old school engines like the 283 and 327's etc. Still worthy books, I'd just consider the date of publishing for more current info.

Sence I'm sticking with the tbi, and ignition older pre vortec is fine with me, most of what I'm planning will be with rebuilding older parts/youpullit, and staying in the pre 90's with most parts

All books listed are great. I have probably half a dozen different ones myself most of which are listed here. I also have one that was fantastic is Rebuilding the Smallblock Chevy Step by Step Video book. Its an SA Design book. It includes a DVD that goes thru disassembly, machine work, pre-assembly and final assembly.
