It was driving me crazy because the existing piece of rubber had shrunk a little over the years. So here's the solution: A little foam weatherstripping with tape on one side.

that foam piece is meant to stop drafts, not to make the handle tighter. if your handle is sloppy it's probably worn out or it's a cheap Chinese replacement. highdesertranger

mine is the cheap chinese.....can't even put a clip on it. Might be the assembly instead of the handle though. the 2 just don't line up. I prolly could take a dremel to the handle and make it work. Other things on the brain.

Yep, the foam is to stop the draft and it puts pressure against the handle so it don't rattle around, but if it's one of them China junk handles don't be surprised one day when you hit a bump or pot hole and the handle pops off and falls on the floor, LOL..

I am just telling you what the foam is for. if you want to make it into something it's not, to take up slop that's your business. if it were me I would fix the problem and not mickey mouse it. highdesertranger

It very well could be a cheap Chinese product, but there was a gap of about 3/16" between the washer and the door panel. Once the extra weatherstripping was installed the gap was gone and the handle/washer no longer had any sloppiness. I can only afford so much when I'm the sole wage earner in the family.

update: didn't have to do anything, just had to hold my tongue just right and lift a leg and fart and burp at the same time. BAM it slid right on there.
