Anyone interested? I'm setting up hydro assist for a 2x10 ram for my rockwells, but if anyone is in the dark completely like I was, I can share a little info from what I gathered.

OK, so to begin. You have your staple Saginaw 2wd steering box you got out of the junkyard or off the web, you're excited, looking to setup hydraulic assist.
Mine came off a 1984 C20.
Junkyard pull.
Before anyone roasts me over the chopped off tierod end.
1. I didn't bring the tool I needed to remove
2. Junkyard was closing in 10 min, and I had gotten the steering box almost out.

So for starters, we'll pull out the sector shaft.
Have yourself a 1 & 5/16 socket ready for the big nut that holds on the pitman arm.
Get it off, then you'll want to get your tierod puller of choice, and take the pitman off.

I think it was important to note, get your pitman arm in the center of its travel, before you attempt removing the sector shaft.

Grab yourself a 9/16 socket of choice, take off the sector shaft cover,
I would recommend grabbing a brass punch and catching it on the lip, and knocking it off.
(note) it won't come off until you remove the pitman arm.

The sector may come out, it may not. If it doesn't, there's a chance your steering isn't in the center of its travel. And if it is, do as I said with the piece of brass, or take a brass hammer and beat it out from the threaded end where the pitman arm was.

Using the hole in the side, find yourself a small flat head, or whatever you can, and push by hand, or take a hammer to the end of the screwdriver and work the big snap ring loose.

From that point, you have to get the cover off.
Easiest way of doing that is turning your steering box all the way to the left, and keep turning, the piston will push the cover off.

By this point, the piston will come all the way out.

BEWARE OF THE BALL BEARINGS THAT WERE INSIDE THE PISTON.
CAREFULLY REMOVE THE PISTON
I would recommend pulling it from the bottom. Bearings should fall in the bottom of the piston.
We'll get into those little bitches later, just keep them safe.

Take note of the o ring, you can pull it, as a rebuild kit will include it.

There's also one for the cap of the sector shaft. Take note of that as well.

Where the pitman arm was, you should find yourself a snap ring, 1 seal, a metal washer, and a 2nd seal, then finally at the bottom, a roller bearing cage.
Remove those,
I'll be honest, I couldn't salvage my seals while removing them, I tore them up, but the rebuild kit will include them.
Along with the bearing should you damage it.
Easiest method of removal is from where the sector shaft cover was with a punch.

For the next step, we're removing the worm shaft that the plunger moves on.

1. Get the snap ring off that's at the shaft,

2. Take a drift or brass punch, loosen the nut, remove it.

3. With a spanner (or a brass rod) remove the threaded body.

4. Pull out the assembly.
Exercise caution Removing that.
It may fall apart.
If it does, take note of its assembly, many of the parts will come in the rebuild kit.

Set that aside.

Lastly, in the bottom you'll find a thrust bearing, and 2 conical washers.
Note how it was in the box.

By this point she should be stripped down, and ready for drilling and tapping.
