Rust repair questions

So I’m finally going to be repairing the cab on my 81 k10 and question is where to start lol!! I need to replace cab corners, floor pans, inner and outer rockers, cab supports as well as the main floor support on the drivers side. Should I replace the floor pans first and then the main floor support? Or the other way around? I also need to find new hardware for the cab mounts. I already have all the metal except for the floor support. Any advice is appreciated!

I would think you would want to fix the structure items first. A lot of the shows it appears they workers will support the structure with "X"s to maintain the cab rigidity while cutting out the floor pan and supports for the cabs.

I would google/you-tube several sites on how-tos for rust repairs.

That’s what I was thinking. Just have to order that support now. Watched some videos and looks like I’ll be able to replace the support then replace the floor pan so I can spot weld it all together.

i would start with the rocker and inner rocker. now you have the perimiter for the floor pan and put the support in last. i'm lot a bodyman but i have done a few using this sequence with good success. put the corner in last.

That’s what I was thinking. Worried about having a solid enough place to lift the cab to replace the main floor brace. Still waiting for my inner rocker panels so it’ll be a while before I get started.

Whenever I messing with rockers or floor pans anything that might affect door gap I weld a piece of angle iron across the door opening low on the inside before I start.It holds my door gap cut the welds when you are done.

I would suggest aligning all body panels to the fit you want, then I would start with floor pans and cab support, do one side at a time and only cut out what you have to, basically working inside to out. If your cab supports are really bad, when you replace them it may change your alignment on things so if you do that first then you can adjust Panel alignment if the need be before you get to rockers and cab corners.

Starting on tearing the truck down and already ran into a wheel well bolt that’s frozen. I’m thinking I’ll have to cut the head off to remove the fender and have better access. I’ll get some pictures uploaded soon on the progress
